On August 14th, 2003 the first skate night at the Achensee [G] took place. The
motto was: "No race, just fun". The tour started at Achenkirch am Achensee [G], was going through Maurach am Achensee [G] and ended at Pertisau am Achensee [G]. It was about 18 km long.
I scanned a map so you get the idea
where we were skating around.
After driving five hours I arrived too soon at the ski-lift station
Cristlum, which was the meeting point. So I skated around a bit.
At 5 p.m. the people of the lokal Salomon [E] group arrived.
After a while the organisation team was present.
Karl Hirsch (which I knew
from other skate events) brougth me an ordner shirt he got from Hannes Wolf [G] (which was one
person of the organisation team). I am one of the ordner [E] of the Friday Night Skating Vienna [E] so I accepted to act as ordner. The
other ordner were mostly participants of SkateMunich! [G].
It was about 7 p.m. when the group of about 100 skater started. Most parts
of the route were cycleways. In the case we had to use a street the traffic was
blocked by the fire brigade or
the Gendarmerie [E/G]. An ambulance was driving behind us but we didn't
need them.
From time to time we made a rest for the skater which were skating slower. This gave me time to
take a photo of the wonderful lake.
Even if I was skating fast there were a few people behind me (which were
member of speed skating clubs who were participating at the race which was at
the next day).
It was about 10 minutes past 8 p.m. when we reached the finish.
After a great skate show from Gerdschi and Sonja (the two in the center) there was a pasta party
where the Gams Duo Tirol were
entertaining. During the whole event the moderation was done by Schabanack. (Their website can be
found here [G].)
A quarter after 10 p.m. a shuttle bus brougth us back to Achenkirch.
I made a few photos [E].
One of the other ordner wrote a german review [G] and made some pictures [G]. And Elisabeth Schrenk wrote a german review [G].
